Women’s Health Why We Run Collective: Inspiring Stories from the London Marathon 2024

The Women’s Health Why We Run collective recently completed the London Marathon 2024, and their journey is nothing short of inspiring. Each member had their own unique motivation for taking on the grueling 26.2-mile challenge, and after months of training and documenting their progress, they crossed the finish line in the best, most functional kit provided by lululemon.

One member, Claire Sanderson, the editor-in-chief of Women’s Health and Men’s Health, had a particularly emotional journey. After battling kidney failure and long covid, she wanted to prove what her body was capable of by running the marathon again. Despite facing obstacles like injuries and personal loss, she pushed through and completed the race in 5 hours and 41 minutes, with plans to improve her time next year.

Another member, Eryn Barber, a personal trainer and lululemon ambassador, faced challenges with ulcerative colitis during her training. Despite the physical hurdles, she found joy in the support of the crowds and the accomplishment of finishing the race faster than she expected.

Kinza Athar, the founder of a plant-based snack company, found running the marathon to be a mental and physical challenge unlike any other. Despite setbacks like knee pain and fasting during Ramadan, she pushed through and plans to run again in 2025.

Milly Pickles, a para-athlete with a prosthetic leg, overcame immense physical pain and blood loss during the race but persevered with the support of her boyfriend and friends. Her journey from a near-fatal accident to completing a marathon is a testament to her strength and determination.

Lastly, Shelley Lewis, a nurse and mother of two, fulfilled a promise to herself by running the marathon in her 40th year. Despite an ankle injury and emotional moments during the race, she found strength in the memory of her late mother and crossed the finish line with a sense of accomplishment and awe.

The stories of these women showcase the power of determination, resilience, and the support of a community in achieving incredible feats. Their experiences serve as a reminder that with perseverance and a strong support system, anything is possible.
