Heading: Delta Burke’s Weight Loss Journey: From Black Beauties to Crystal Meth
The former “Designing Women” star Delta Burke recently revealed on the “Glamorous Trash” podcast that she turned to crystal meth to lose weight. Burke, 67, shared that while studying in London, she was prescribed pills that made her heart race but helped her shed pounds. When she returned to the U.S., she sought out the illegal pills, known as Black Beauties, which were a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine marketed as diet pills in the 1960s and 1970s.
Burke eventually built a tolerance to the pills and turned to crystal meth, a drug she was unfamiliar with at the time. She described how she consumed the drug by mixing it in cranberry juice and not eating for five days. Despite her extreme weight loss methods, Burke expressed that she felt like a “goddess” at the time.
The actress also discussed her struggles with weight in her 1998 memoir and reflected on the impact of her role on “Designing Women” where she received support and gratitude from fans for representing full-figured and plus-sized women. Burke’s candid revelations shed light on the pressures and challenges faced by celebrities in the pursuit of a certain body image.
