Addressing the Gap in Mental Health Care for Women: A Look at Telemedicine Solutions
Women’s Mental Health Care Gap Addressed by Telemedicine Companies
A recent study has revealed a concerning gap in mental health care for women, with 50% of women expressing a need for mental health services compared to 35% of men. However, only half of these women were able to secure an appointment for care, while 10% were unsuccessful in their attempts, and 40% did not seek care at all.
In response to this issue, specialty telemedicine company Thirty Madison is taking action through its two subsidiaries, Nurx and Cove. Nurx provides comprehensive care in women’s health, while Cove focuses on treating migraines. Interestingly, 60% of migraine patients also report being diagnosed with anxiety disorders, and 50% with depression.
Both companies currently offer mental health treatment centered around medication management for conditions like anxiety and depression. However, a new partnership with telemedicine-based therapy provider Talkspace will expand therapy options for patients. This includes online therapy with a dedicated, licensed provider and access to Talkspace’s self-guided app.
Talkspace allows users to communicate with providers through text, video, picture, and audio messages five days a week. In addition to therapy, the company offers psychiatry services, prescription fulfillment, adolescent therapy, and couples counseling. More than 130 million Americans have access to Talkspace through various health insurance plans and partnerships.
Patients can utilize Nurx for a range of health needs, including birth control, migraine treatment, mental health care, and home tests for various conditions. By answering a few health-related questions and providing insurance information, patients can receive a prescription or order tests from Nurx’s provider team. All medications and tests are delivered discreetly to the patient’s door at no additional cost.
With these innovative telemedicine solutions, Thirty Madison is working to bridge the gap in mental health care for women and provide convenient, accessible services for those in need.
